Though the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was not incorporated until 1930, the organization has been in existence since January 13, 1913. The twenty-two female Howard University students that founded it did so to because they wanted to collectively promote academic excellence and help people in need.
The sorority’s mission involves working toward economic and educational development, international and political awareness and involvement, as well as physical and mental health. This has led to memberships and chapters all over the world including the U.S. Virgin Islands, Seoul, Korea, England and Germany, another example of how and why organization pins are a popular choice among it and many other groups.
